Lake Michigan tour

Drove around the old lake during the last few days. Beautiful scenery in Wisconsin and Michigan. One flawlessly sunny day, one mostly overcast day and one mixed day of cloud, sun and a few very short drizzle made for fine but less than perfect weather. The bike was pure joy, and some of the route, in particular in Michigan, was truly spectacular. Let's hope I'll get away from work a few more times like this.

Got papers

Very pleasant surprise today at the Secretary of State facility. Not only did I not owe 'real' sales tax -- bikes are treated differently in Illinois, a flat $25 applies -- but the whole process was supersmooth. Needed to see three people, all of which were available when I got around to see them. In total probably took less that 30 minutes, and I walked out with new plates. A lot better than I what I used to experience back in Germany in the mid/late Eighties.

The deed is done

After some eight or nine years without a bike, the tide has turned again. Purchased a two-year old BMW R1100RL last night. That is the 'classic' looking roadster with white pinstripes on a black tank, spoke wheels, and chromed cylinder heads. Very spiffy. First two-cylinder bike following the three thumpers way back when in the mid-80s to early 90s.
